This is our story!
John and Sven are the owners, renovators and hosts who started this ambitious project with help from family and friends. They met in 2022 at a backyard BBQ in Wiesbaden, Germany, and starting this business was their way of staying close with loved ones in both countries while preserving the historic and family homes that mean so much to them and their families.
Halfway between their hometowns where the North American and European continental plates meet, John and Sven exchanged vows on the edge of the Arctic Circle in Husavik, Iceland. Although they didn’t see any whales breaching in unison (like seen in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga), but they did see some incredible northern lights on their wedding night.
Both enjoy their DIY projects, board games and helping guests enjoy memorable stays.
John is the American (Massachusetts) who grew up on Cape Cod. He enjoys geography, trip planning and curating Spotify playlists by decade. You can hear the playlists by searching for the profile "platoc" on Spotify.
Sven is the German (Hesse) who grew up on the edge of the Odenwald. He enjoys lighting, theater and smart home installation.
The American Home
The Gould Swaby Mansion was purchased in 2024 as a large fixer upper. John enjoyed admiring this and the other mansions on the street as a kid whenever he came to town - usually for weekends away from college or childhood Thanksgivings (with a big scoop of auntie’s famous Jell-O mold) - never imaging it would be part of the family one day!
The German Home
The Olive Garden (their German home) is Sven’s childhood farmhouse home. Going back generations, Sven’s first memories were running around his grandma’s house in diapers chasing one of a homemade Blutwurst.
The Florida Home
Granda’s Oasis entered the family tree when John’s grandmother left Boston for Florida in the 1960s to continue raising her family next to an orange grove. Over the years, family from afar would catchup here and to enjoy this quiet oasis in a charming neighborhood. After passing in 2022, family has kept up the tradition of gathering here and enjoying the nearby pool, nearby beaches and Mexican food.
